I knew just what you meant when you were admiring someone's sweater -- it's almost (for me) a longing for something you don't even want anymore. The echo of a past desire? The longing for our former ignorance? Is there a word for that?

Also, the issue of being true to one's own ideals, and yet honoring the needs of the people around you, and passing on your values to your children without preaching -- oh, it's complicated!Tall Katehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14479411015152122256noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24093811.post-90513452235281332512008-08-04T06:07:00.000-05:002008-08-04T06:07:00.000-05:00As always...a very well written and thoughtful pos...As always...a very well written and thoughtful posting.Woodyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10877959836671583682noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24093811.post-24274152480750381872008-07-30T13:20:00.000-05:002008-07-30T13:20:00.000-05:00Lovely post :)Lovely post :)sugarcreekfarmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09655268212094370061noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24093811.post-36810605594780896802008-07-30T10:20:00.000-05:002008-07-30T10:20:00.000-05:00Very well said. Being on the ‘fringe’ is one thing, but completely alienating yourself is not the answer either. Do you find it difficult to express these views to people without them thinking your’re acting superior? I’ve had many a discussion with people who felt we thought we were better than everyone else because of the choices we make. Personally, I know this is more their issue than ours, but it still makes it difficult to stand out in a crowd for what you believe in.

Thanks for the post.Angiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06590585650894114884noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24093811.post-35957936260461328672008-07-29T22:24:00.000-05:002008-07-29T22:24:00.000-05:00You probably are "preaching to the choir" here, bu...You probably are "preaching to the choir" here, but it's nice to know that there's another person out there who has recognized how difficult it is to be straddling the fence.Wendyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04642417312794814066noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24093811.post-26356676073051617802008-07-28T15:38:00.000-05:002008-07-28T15:38:00.000-05:00I had the same *aha* moment after I made my first ...I had the same *aha* moment after I made my first batch of jam. I feel the frustration of being in two worlds as well, with my kids. What you said about your hands looking like a mechanic's - when we bought the hybrid (an investment in the future, we hope), the salesman asked if Nicolas was a mechanic.Madeline Rainshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05075400838213199585noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24093811.post-81983556181866182992008-07-28T08:05:00.000-05:002008-07-28T08:05:00.000-05:00I dream of the world you do.
